Kilimanjaro Safaris® Expedition is a safari jeep ride and is located in Africa at Disney’s Animal Kingdom® Theme Park. The duration of this attraction is about 22 minutes. Each jeep holds up to 36 passengers with each row seating up to 5 guests. There are no seating restraints.

Is Kilimanjaro Safari on a track?

A lot of guests simply assume that the cast members aboard the great big safari trucks are simply onboard for guest safety and that the attraction is all on a track. Cast Members go through rigorous training to land the role on Kilimanjaro Safaris and all of the custom built GMC and Ford trucks are free roaming.

During the original version of Kilimanjaro Safaris, “Simba-1” (the callsign of the safari truck) would be radioed by a scientist and the habitat warden to help track down a group of elephant poachers who had captured Big Red and her baby.

Apparently the ride’s theme of protecting the reserve from elephant poachers is what they found frightening. However, Walt Disney World announced a few months ago that the attraction would undergo changes to include more live animals, especially zebras. And so is the abandoned poachers’ camp.
