Omeprazole reduces the amount of acid your stomach makes. It’s a widely used treatment for indigestion and heartburn and acid reflux. It’s also taken to prevent and treat stomach ulcers. Sometimes omeprazole is taken for a rare illness caused by a tumour in the pancreas or gut called Zollinger-Ellison syndrome.

When should I take omeprazole 20mg gastro resistant capsules?

To treat ulcers in the upper part of the intestine (duodenal ulcer): The recommended dose is 20 mg once a day for 2 weeks. Your doctor may tell you to take the same dose for a further 2 weeks if your ulcer has not yet healed. If the ulcer does not fully heal, the dose can be increased to 40 mg once a day for 4 weeks.

What are the side effects of omeprazole gastro resistant capsules?

The most common side effects (1-10% of patients) are headache, abdominal pain, constipation, diarrhoea, flatulence and nausea/vomiting. The following adverse drug reactions have been identified or suspected in the clinical trials programme for omeprazole and post-marketing.

When should I take gastro resistant tablets?

This formulation is not suitable for children.
