- First, remove the pin holding the handle to the stem by knocking it out with a hammer or the head of a screwdriver.
- With the handle off, undo the screws or bolts holding the stem assembly; this will allow you to lift off the cover.
Why is my backwash not working?

What you can do is remove the old handle and then take a pair of channel lock pliers or a small pipe wrench and open the valve by turning the valve stem sticking out from the valve.
How often should I backwash my Hayward mutliport filter?
Pop one out and insert the other (just remember how the old one was sitting so you can re-insert the new one correctly). The best way to make these valve last a long time is to use them sparingly. That means limit the backwashing between filter cleanings (basically don’t use the valve). I only use them twice a year when I do the filters.
