When do you use Melgisorb AG?

When do you use Melgisorb AG?

When to use Melgisorb Ag Melgisorb Ag is indicated for the management of all moderate to heavily exuding partial to full thickness wounds including post-operative wounds, trauma wounds, leg ulcers, pressure ulcers, diabetic ulcers, graft and donor sites, cavity wounds and superficial and partial thickness burns.

How often do you change Melgisorb AG?

Dressing Change and Removal – Melgisorb Ag can remain in situ up to 7 days. Dressing change frequency will depend on wound condition and the level of exudate. Initially it may be necessary to change the dressing every 24 hours.

Is Melgisorb AG the same as calcium alginate?

Melgisorb® Ag is an absorbent calcium alginate dressing with silver. Effective against a broad spectrum of microorganisms.

What type of dressing is calcium alginate?

Calcium alginate is a highly absorbent, biodegradable alginate dressing derived from seaweed. Alginate dressings maintain a physiologically moist microenvironment that promotes healing and the formation of granulation tissue.

How to apply melgisorb AG to a wound?

Cut (using sterile scissors) or fold the dressing to fit the wound. Apply to wound bed directly. Loosely fill deep wounds, ensuring the dressing does not overlap the wound margins. Cover and secure Melgisorb® Ag with a non-occlusive secondary dressing. Dressing change frequency will depend on wound condition and the level of exudate.

How long does melgisorb AG stay in situ?

Loosely fill deep wounds, ensuring the dressing does not overlap the wound margins. Cover and secure Melgisorb® Ag with a non-occlusive secondary dressing. Melgisorb® Ag can remain in situ up to seven days. Dressing change frequency will depend on wound condition and the level of exudate.

When to change melgisorb to Mepilex border?

To avoid maceration, apply Melgisorb directly to the wound bed, loosely fill deep wounds, and ensure that the dressing does not overlap the wound margin. Melgisorb Ag should be changed when the secondary dressing has become saturated. To reduce the risk of maceration to a minimum, we recommend using Mepilex Border as an outer dressing.

How long does melgisorb AG alginate dressing last?

Melgisorb Ag has been shown to inactivate wound relevant pathogens (bacteria and fungi) within four hours for up to 14 days, as shown in vitro 2 3 . Melgisorb Ag is able to manage high volumes of exudate. The alginate fibres absorb large amounts of exudate, forming a soft gel – which creates a moist environment and promotes wound healing.
