What is the NCS summer Programme?

Our summer programmes are two weeks long. That’s two weeks of adventures, meeting new mates, taking on challenges together, picking up life skills and finding out what you’re really made of!

Is NCS 2021 this year?

We are running NCS progammes in 2021 as follows: a 2 week programme, daytime only 9am to 5pm on weekdays.

NCS Trust follow the standard guidelines that within 14 days a refund will be given to any young person who after paying, decides they no longer wish to attend NCS. If NCS Trust wishes to use your content, you will receive a request by way of an Instagram comment or Tweet.

How much do NCS workers get paid?

Salary approx. £1,242 – £1,656 depending on age. Roles available starting in June and July.

How much does NCS cost?

The cost of the NCS programme is £50 including transport, activities and accommodation. We often have promotions running where NCS is reduced to £30.

What are the 4 phases of NCS?

NCS consists of the four phases: Adventure (Residential), Discover, Social Action and Celebration.

Does NCS count as a qualification?

NCS is now recognised by UCAS and taking part is a sought-after addition to any CV. This week encourages teenagers to not only develop existing skills, but also challenge themselves to discover something new. The workshops focus on important topics such as enterprise and business, political engagement, community exploration and healthy eating.

NCS is an expensive endeavour, but there’s no point in having a cheaper summer programme if it provides little value to participants. No longer are teenagers learning valuable skills, being pushed to engage in their community and required to make a long-term volunteering commitment.

Do you make new friends in National Citizen Service?

Yes, they make new friends, but they don’t gain the first-hand experiences that change their perception, or give them a whole new passion. Maybe it’s time to consider more varied and inexpensive youth services that will prioritise community engagement and reach a wide variety of young people without the high costs.

Why are so many young people not doing National Citizen Service?

Young people are no longer able to develop fresh interests at a low cost and experience classes that would usually be expensive. Photography, media, drama, sport, music and enterprise are useful and enjoyable pursuits, but financial factors prevent many young people from trying them out.
