AT Winterton we share our beautiful beach with some amazing wildlife, especially the grey and common seals that live at nearby Horsey. Wander along the shoreline at any time of year and the chances are you will see one or two of them people watching as they swim up and down our stretch of coast.

Are the seals at Horsey yet?

Horsey beach had 2069 seals that were born in the 2019/2020 season, so this really is a great place to come and see them. And it isn’t just Horsey beach that now has the seals. Every year more and more seals breed at Winterton beach too.

When can you see seals at Blakeney Point?

In Norfolk you can find common (harbour) and grey seals and the majority have their home in a prime spot on Blakeney Point Nature Reserve. The common seals have their young between June and August, and the pups can swim almost immediately.

Is there Friends of Horsey seals in Winterton?

Winterton is made up of miles of beach and sand dunes. The Friends of Horsey Seals are happy to welcome pupils keen to learn about local wildlife. We’d also like to hear about any school projects you made be involved in i.e. beach cleans etc.

Is it safe to walk with seals in Winterton?

Dogs should be kept on a lead. The seals are wild animals and have a nasty bite. The colony is a short drive from Winterton or an hour’s walk north along the beach. If playback doesn’t begin shortly, try restarting your device.

When is the best time to see seals at Horsey?

More than half of the pups do not survive the first year. in 2013 a storm surge swept more than 250 seals from the beach at Horsey, many of them youngsters. If you want to see pups at Horsey the best time to visit is between November and the end of January.
